The series ‘Scoop’ is set to be streamed on Netflix on June 2, reviving the memories of the chilling murder of Mumbai crime Journalist Jyotirmoy Dey.
The series is directed by National Award winner filmmaker Hansal Mehta, known for his acclaimed works like ‘Shahid’ and ‘Scam:1992’.
Stellar Cast: ‘Scoop’ features talented actors Karishma Tanna, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Harman Baweja, Tannishtha Chatterjee, and Deven Bhojani in prominent roles.
The series is based on the biographical novel ‘Behind Bars In Byculla: My Days In Prison’ written by former journalist Jigna Vora, who was a prime accused in the Jyotirmoy Dey murder case.
Jyotirmoy Dey, the Investigations Editor for the tabloid ‘Mid-Day’, was shot dead in Mumbai in 2011 by a gang of four sharpshooters.
The Mumbai Police Crime Branch cracked the case within 16 days, apprehending seven accused from different states, including the mastermind, underworld don Rajendra S. Nikhalje, alias Chhota Rajan.
The murder was believed to be a professionally executed operation, linked to Dey’s investigative work and the rivalries within the media profession.
Eight of the accused, including Chhota Rajan, were sentenced to life imprisonment, while some were acquitted, concluding one of the most heinous crimes against the media.
Dey was known as a fearless and dedicated journalist who pursued investigative stories diligently, leaving an indelible mark on the field of crime journalism.
