Aamir Khan has long been vocal about his desire to adapt the epic Mahabharat for cinema, yet the film remains in limbo. However, the actor recently dropped a hint that the script for the long-awaited project might begin taking shape this year. And fans are all in for the extra details, so here we go.

Amir Khan, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, stated his goals for 2025. The interview showed his commitment to storytelling, which echoes the emotions of his audience. The Mr. Perfectionist of Bollywood shared one of his long-standing ambitions (he has been dreaming of it for years) for the future. The epic Mahabharat!

Aamir expressed his hope to begin work on the film this year, although he acknowledged that it would be a long process, particularly due to the extensive time required for writing. He said, "Fingers crossed, I am hoping to start this year. It will take a while because just the writing process will take a few years."

He also spoke about his involvement as a producer, though he refrained from confirming whether he would also star in the film. Aamir further hinted that the project might take the form of a trilogy or even a multi-part series, akin to the ambitious scale of The Lord of the Rings. He said that this approach would actually give Mahabharat an even more immersive cinematic experience.

While Aamir’s Mahabharat has been a subject of speculation, his recent comments have reignited excitement for the project. If he is able to begin work this year, it could mark the beginning of one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious endeavors—an adaptation of an ancient epic that has captivated hearts and minds for generations.

“You can't tell the Mahabharat in one film. So, I am looking at multiple films, and we might need multiple directors if we have to plan it in a certain timeline. If we do it one after the other, it will take very long. Like they did with The Lord of the Rings, where they shot all three parts together. (We'll do) Something like that?”
