Psychological spy thriller Adolescence was released on Netflix on March 13, 2025, and ever since then, it has been buzzing in many countries including the UK, the US, and even in India. Directed by Philip Barantini and Co-Created by Stephen Graham, Adolescence revolves around a 13-year-old boy who gets arrested in a brutal murder case of another teen named Katie. Is Adolescence a true story?
The answer is yes and no at the same time. While the story around 13-year-old Jamie Miller may be original, the inspiration behind it is based on a true story. The Netflix mini-series Co-creator Stephen Graham has confirmed that he was inspired to make the show after seeing two separate reports of boys stabbing girls to death. BBC quoted Graham saying, "I just thought, what's going on in society where this kind of thing is becoming a regular occurrence?"
"I just couldn't fathom it. So I wanted to really have a look and try and shine a light on this particular thing," added Graham. However, Graham never mentioned which two particular cases.

Adolescence Real Story
Since the show especially highlighted Andrew Tate in their storyline, one of the most famous cases linked to it is Kyle Clifford. As per BBC, Kyle Clifford committed triple murder by crossbow. Clifford, 26, murdered Carol, Louise, and Hannah Hunt at their home in Bushey, Hertfordshire, in July 2024 and he was found guilty of raping Louise Hunt during the attack.
Prosecutors at Cambridge Crown Court said Clifford's actions were fuelled by the "violent misogyny promoted" by controversial social media personality Andrew Tate. Baroness Nicky Morgan said the case proved "so-called legal content can absolutely be deeply, deeply harmful to others".
Another case that can talked is the attempted murder of a 13-year-old girl by a 14-year-old boy. As per UK media report, a 14-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a blade after a 13-year-old girl was found stabbed. The girl was found with serious injuries to her neck, abdomen, chest and back near the A63 in Hessle, East Yorkshire, on 1 November. Five other teenagers were also arrested in connection with the incident. Three boys, aged 15, 16 and 17, and two girls, aged 14 and 15, have been released on police bail.
