Amritsar’s young cricketer Abhishek Sharma, has made headlines with a great performance in the recent T20 match. He scored a century in just 37 balls. His extraordinary performance has left his father, Raj Kumar Sharma, filled with pride and joy.
Abhishek Sharma had made his debut against Zimbabwe in July 2024. He plays as an opening batter as well as spinner. In domestic cricket, he represents Punjab while in the Indian Premier League, he plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Sharma hails from Amritsar, Punjab. He is the youngest of three siblings. He had completed his schooling from Delhi Public School. He is a friend of Shubman Gill since childhood. They both used to open the innings for Punjab in the under-14s.
His father, Raj Kumar is a renowned cricket coach in Amritsar. He has been Abhishek’s mentor since childhood. Expressing his pride, Raj Kumar said, “It’s a proud moment for us that Abhishek is bringing glory to our name.”
Abhishek’s cricketing journey took a turn when he joined Yuvraj Singh’s cricket academy five to six years ago. He refined his game under the mentorship of Yuvraj Singh and Yograj Singh.
Whenever Abhishek visits Amritsar, he follows a spiritual routine, starting his day at Sri Harmandir Sahib, offering prayers and taking a holy dip at 4 AM before resuming his cricket practise. His father said that while excelling in cricket is important, “Being a good human being matters the most.”
Abhishek shares a close bond with Team India’s star batsman, Shubman Gill. The two consider each other brothers and have built a strong partnership both on and off the field. Their performances together have often been match-winning.
Apart from his cricketing skills, Abhishek maintains a strict discipline in his diet and fitness as well. His father links his success to the support from coaches and fellow players since childhood.
