Amritsar Police bust blackmailing gang with fake journalists: Two masterminds arrested, investigation underway

The investigation into the matter has been carried out by the Maqboolpura police station, and as of now, as many as two key members have been arrested.

Amritsar police recently busted a money extortion gang, which was handled by a journalist and some associates of Shiv Sena. According to the preliminary information, the gang was illegally extorting money from innocent people. 

The investigation into the matter has been carried out by the Maqboolpura police station, and as of now, as many as two key members have been arrested. The investigation and search operations are still ongoing, and it is suspected that the gang also included women associates. 

Details of the matter - 

According to the details shared by the senior police officials, the gang members used fake press identities and political connections to extort money from the residents of the city. The women included in the gang played a key role in the blackmailing scheme as they used to contact influential individuals, following which they got engaged in fake scandalous videos and then blackmailed them for a large sum of money. 

This investigation was launched after Jujhar Singh, a resident, filed a complaint after he was blackmailed for ₹10 lakh. Following this, two masterminds of the racket, named Varun Kapoor and Amarinder Singh, were arrested

Involvement of Women - 

ADCP Harpal Singh, during a press conference, mentioned that several women were involved in the operation, who were identified as Pooja from Pathankot, Kulwinder Kaur, and Monika from Amritsar. 

Singh was quoted saying, “This gang used deceptive means to blackmail innocent people under the guise of journalism and political influence. We have arrested two key members, and further investigations are underway. The remaining suspects will be nabbed soon,” according to some reports. 

Police have further outlined that the investigation will continue until the racket is completely dissolved. Furthermore, the officials have mentioned that people must remain cautious and should come to the police if any such activities are reported.
