Black Warrant Real Story: The much-awaited series Black Warrant will be released on Netflix on January 10, 2025. Black Warrant is the first original web series that will be released on Netflix in the year 2025. From the makers of Sacred Games, Black Warrant is a prison drama that revolves around a rookie Tihar Jail Law Officer named Sunil Gupta. Black Warrant is a real story based on Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer, written by Sunil Gupta and Sunetra Choudhury. While Sunetra is a journalist, Sunil Gupta was a real-life former law officer of Tihar Jail. During his tenure at Tihar Jail, Sunil Gupta witnessed at least 8 hangings of criminals in Tihar Jail. In fact notorious serial killed infamous as 'Bikini Killer' Charles Sobhraj was also in Tihar Jail when he joined there as law officer. 

How did Charles Sobhraj dupe Sunil Gupta?

 In an interview with News Laundry, Sunil Gupta clarified that he witnessed 8 hangings and also shared how Charles Sobhraj escaped Tihar Jail despite being heavily guarded. He said, "We used to consider Tihar as a family. Whosoever is coming to the jail, he is our family. Charles Sobhraj (Serial Killer) was a family for us. He once asked us that he wants to distribute sweets among other prisoners on his birthday. We were never suspicious that he may mix sedatives in the sweets. He broke that trust."

For the unevsred, on 16 March 1986, Sobhraj put into action his audacious plan to escape Tihar prison. He managed to get a drug runner, Richard Hall, to drive into the jail on a Sunday along with a basket of goodies — grapes, apples, chocolates, custard pudding, barfi and petha, all spiked with just the right amount of sedatives. His excuse for the sweets was that it was his birthday.

Who is Sunil Gupta?

Sunil Gupta in an interview with Lallantop said, "I worked in railway for one year from 1980 to 1981. I felt railways job because I could have transferred outside Delhi. I wanted to live in Delhi because I was born there. I cleared competition in Tihar jail where I was given a job. I was very thin when I got the job in Tihar. My chest was not even 32...But, due to destiny I got selected for the job by the interview panel."

"When I first went there, a Superintendent called me, he asked for which post I had been recruited. I answered him, I have been recruited for Assistant Superintendent. He said there is no vacancy here. I told him that I had already informed them. I told him, I left my railways job to work here. Then a gentleman-like man came. I was sitting very sad there. Seeing him, I stood him, thinking he might be an officer as he was accompanied by two to three people. 

He asked me 'How have you come here?' I told him, 'I came here for the post of Assistant Superintendent. He said, 'I know you have come here for joining, but I know this Superintendent jail will harass you. He will not take you on the job. I was thinking he might be a big officer and he may help me out. After sometime, he came back and gave me the joining letter. I really though he was an angel. Later, I found out that he was Charles Sobhraj. Those days Charles was ruling Tihar Jail," said Sunil Gupta.
