During his 21 years of service at Tihar Jail, Sunil Kumar Gupta witnessed at least 8 hangings i.e. capital punishment. One of them was of Ujaagar Singh and Kartar Singh. Netflix's Black Warrant series showcased that Sunil Kumar Gupta was eager to get legal help for Ujaagar and Kartar who were awaiting death sentences. Sunil Gupta felt that the main culprit for the crime was Dr. Narendra Jain who hired them in Rs 500 to murder his wife.
What happened to Dr. Narendra Jain?
For those who are not aware of the case, Dr. Narendra Jain's case goes back to 1973. Dr. Narendra Jain was the personal eye surgeon of the then President of India VV Giri. Dr. Narendra Jain was accused of hiring contract killers in 1973 to kill his wife Vidya Jain. As shown in the series, Dr. Narendra Jain planned his wife's murder by hiring two poor people for just Rs 500- Ujaagar Singh and Kartar Singh.
The Doctor planned his wife's murder just to carry out his illicit relationship with another person. As per The Print, Dr. Narendra Jain plotted the murder of his wife along with his paramour Chandresh.
On 4 December 1973, Dr Narendra Jain came back to his house in the posh locality of Defence Colony in New Delhi at about 7.15 p.m. He asked his wife, Vidya Jain, to get ready so that they could visit his sister who lived in the same neighbourhood. At that point, Vidya Jain was brutally killed by Kartar and Ujaagar.
Vidya’s body was found in the ditch from which the assailant had emerged. She was pulled out of the drain with the help of some guests of the Jains and their domestic help. Vidya had suffered fourteen brutal knife injuries. She was bleeding profusely, so Dr Jain put her in the car and drove to a nearby nursing home, where she was declared dead on arrival.
As per the information available, Dr. Narendra Jain was sentenced to life imprisonment but Kartar and Ujaagar who killed 45-year-old Vidya were hanged to death inside Delhi's Tihar Jail.
