Since you have landed on this page, True Scoop assumes that you have already watched Black Warrant on Netflix and wondering about Black Warrant Real Story, Black Warrant True Story, and 'Bikini Killer' Charles Sobhraj's escape from Tihar Jail. Below is all you need to know about Black Warrant Real Story or Black Warrant True Story and Charles Sobhraj's escape from Delhi's Tihar Jail-
How did Charles Sobhraj escape from the high-security prison of Delhi's Tihar Jail?
As shown in Black Warrant, Charles duped the entire jail administration by requesting to distribute sweets on his birthday. Charles infected the sweets with sedatives that were distributed to both prisoners and security officials in Tihar Jail.
In an interview with News Laundry, Sunil Gupta clarified that he witnessed 8 hangings and also shared how Charles Sobhraj escaped Tihar Jail despite being heavily guarded. He said, "We used to consider Tihar as a family. Whosoever is coming to the jail, he is our family. Charles Sobhraj (Serial Killer) was a family for us. He once asked us that he wants to distribute sweets among other prisoners on his birthday. We were never suspicious that he may mix sedatives in the sweets. He broke that trust."
How Charles Sobhraj was recaptured after escaping from Tihar Jail?
For the unversed, on 16 March 1986, Sobhraj put into action his audacious plan to escape Tihar prison. He managed to get a drug runner, Richard Hall, to drive into the jail on a Sunday along with a basket of goodies — grapes, apples, chocolates, custard pudding, barfi, and petha, all spiked with just the right amount of sedatives. His excuse for the sweets was that it was his birthday.
As per reports, Charles lived in Tihar for 12 years but due to his fear of being extradited to Thailand where he was facing a death sentence, he planned his escape from the prison. After the escape, Charles reportedly hid in plain sight and was later recaptured in Goa.
Two decades after his initial arrest, the 'bikini killer' walked free from Tihar and then he returned to France and led a quiet life. However, Charles in 2003 went back to Nepal. In Nepal, Charles was still wanted for murder. Arrested in Kathmandu, Charles was convicted for the 1975 killings of Laurent Carrière and Connie Jo Bronzich and sentenced to life imprisonment. For nearly two decades, Sobhraj remained behind bars in Nepal.
On 21 December 2022, the Supreme Court of Nepal ordered his release from prison because of his old age.
