The union budget 2025 will be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman on Friday, February 2, 2025, deviating from the traditional practice of unveiling the budget on February 1. This marks her eighth consecutive budget since assuming office in 2019. The session will begin at 11:00 AM IST and broadcast live across multiple platforms, ensuring widespread access for citizens and stakeholders.

Why February 2 this year?

Historically, the Union Budget is presented on Friday 1, a tradition introduced in 2017 when the date was advanced from the end of February to allow ample time for fund allocation before the finance year begins. However, the Budget presentation has been moved to February 2 this year.

This rescheduling is believed to be linked to Assembly Elections in certain states, which may require the government’s focus during that time. While no official statement has been made, such adjustments are not unprecedented when critical state elections overlap with the Union government proceedings.
