On Thursday midnight, 14th November, a medical store owner died as fire broke out at his house in Jalandhar, Punjab. This tragic incident happened in the posh area of New Jawahar Nagar in the city. The fire department came to know about the incident at around 1.30 am. After which the fire was soon brought under control.
Unfortunately, Atul Sood, the owner of the house and owner of City Medical Store located at Company Bagh Chowk, lost his life in the incident. Two other people were also burnt in the incident. Atul was sleeping with his wife on the third floor. His wife got rescued in time.
According to the information received, preliminary investigation has revealed that the fire was lit in the temple and may have started from there. When the fire brigade team was informed, the teams reached the spot within ten minutes. In the next 15 to 20 minutes, the fire brigade teams had brought the fire under control. Sood's wife, who was unconscious, was taken out by his employee.
An employee of City Medical Store present inside the house named Gopal said that he has been working with Atul for the last 20 years. Along with Gopal, his colleagues Jagdish Ram Lal and Bhagat were also present.
When the fire broke out, the sound of explosions was heard from the house. On hearing the sound of explosions, the employees immediately went out and saw that smoke was coming from the house. Bhagat and Jagdish escaped from there but Ramlal got stuck. He was then somehow rescued through the stairs.
Following this, the injured were immediately taken to the hospital with the help of the people around. After extinguishing the fire, when the fire brigade team reached the house, Atul's body was found in the bathroom. In the primary investigation, the cause of Atul's death is seemed to be suffocation. However, the real cause will be known after the post-mortem of the body.
Atul was the father of three children, one of his daughters is in Australia, other in Delhi and his son is in Canada. Police from Thana-6 reached the crime scene late at night for investigation.
