On Friday, 7th September, a class 12th student, Laxmi, was dragged by a motorcycle-borne phone snatchers in the Green Model Town area, Jalandhar, Punjab. She got dragged by the snatcher when she tried to hold on to her mobile phone after it was snatched by the motorcycle-borne attackers. This shocking incident of phone snatching took place in the afternoon. This incident got captured on CCTV, after which a 44-second clip of the incident also went viral.
Laxmi, an 18-year-old, 12th grade student, who comes originally from Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, went to visit her sister-in-law along with her sister and her neighbour’s daughter. While returning back to home, three men on a motorcycle began to follow them. The man driving the motorcycle was wearing a turban, while the other man seated in the middle had covered his face with a handkerchief.
The driver of the motorcycle stopped near Laxmi and said ‘sorry’ to her. She got confused. After this, the bike began to move and one of the men grabbed her mobile phone. Laxmi tightly grabbed her phone and tried to pull it back. She fought and refused to give her phone. But unfortunately, the motorcycle-borne phone snatchers did not let the phone go instead they dragged her for almost around 350 meters on the road and then escaped with the phone.
During this incident, the local residents, victim’s sister and neighbours tried to chase the phone snatchers but the attackers managed to escape with the phone as they were on a motorcycle. Laxmi got injured because of being dragged for 350 meters on the road.
SHO Sahil Chaudhary has said that the police have started the investigation. They have got key clues from the clips of the CCTV that captured the whole incident. They are trying to identify and arrest the snatchers involved in the case.
