In a unique & one of a kind initiative, a university has announced a new degree in marriage to curb the falling birth rate and lack of wedding registration. Under the new program i.e. marriage degree, the university will 'highlight positivity around marriage and family culture to students and the advance reform of marriage customs'. Marriage degrees will reportedly cover courses such as family counselling, high-end wedding planning, the development of matchmaking products, etc. Now, the question arises which country's university has decided to come up with a marriage degree for students?

The answer is China. As per reports, China's Civil Affairs University has come up with a unique solution to resolve the country's declining birth rates and marriage registration. The Civil Affairs University will officially launch the China marriage degree for students in the month of September 2024. As per reports, the Chinese University will take on 70 students from 12 provinces for the new degree every year.

Talking about the falling birth rate in China, data suggest that the number of Chinese couples who got married in the first half of this year fell to its lowest level since 2013 as more young people deferred weddings amid a slowing economy and a rise in living costs. A total of 3.43 million couples tied the knot in the first six months of the year, a drop of 498,000 from the same year-ago period. Another data from January 2024 highlighted that China reported a downward trend in its population growth for the second consecutive time in 2023, giving rise to its deepening demographic challenge.

As of now, China has a total of 1.409 billion people, which makes it the second most populated country. India surpassed China last year as the world's most populous country.
