In a tragic development, a freight train on Monday collided with the Kanchenjunga Express in Phansidewa area of Darjeeling district of West Bengal. As per reports, a speeding freight train hit the stationary Kanchenjunga Express. To be precise, Kanchenjunga Express accident took place near Rangapani station after the train had passed Siliguri, en route from NJP to Sealdah. As per reports, the impact severely damaged three rear coaches, resulting in the deaths of at least four passengers.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee confirmed Kanchenjunga Express train accident and gave an update on X. She wrote, "Shocked to learn, just now, about a tragic train accident, in Phansidewa area of Darjeeling district. While details are awaited, Kanchenjunga Express has reportedly been hit by a goods train. DM, SP, doctors, ambulances and disaster teams have been rushed to the site for rescue, recovery, medical assistance. Action on war-footing initiated."
Now, Kanchenjunga Express train accident aftermath video is going viral on social media. Three to four coaches of the Kanchenjunga Express can be seen overturned on the railway tracks. The collision was so intense that the engine of the freight train went through the rear coach making it dangling over it.
