Delhi-Amritsar bullet train gets green light: KNOW the route & villages affected

A new bullet train service will commence in Northern India. According to recent reports, the central government has cleared a proposal for a bullet train that will run between Delhi and Amritsar.

A new bullet train service will commence in Northern India. According to recent reports, the central government has cleared a proposal for a bullet train that will run between Delhi and Amritsar. 

It is worth noting that this new train service will reduce the travel time to just two hours. Certain reports have outlined that the land will be acquired from approximately 343 villages in Haryana and Punjab for the completion of this project. 

The estimated cost of the project is around ₹61,000 crore and will be as long as 465 kilometers. All the project operations will be conducted in Delhi. 

Designated stops between Delhi-Amritsar - 

The journey will commence from Delhi, and before reaching Amritsar, the train will stop at the following stations - 

  •  Bahadurgarh  
  • Jhajjar
  • Sonipat  
  • Panipat  
  • Karnal  
  • Kurukshetra  
  • Ambala
  • Chandigarh
  • Ludhiana, and
  • Jalandhar

The estimated traveling time between Delhi and Amritsar will be reduced to just 2 hours. The authorities have outlined that the maximum speed of the train is around 350 km/h, and the operating speed will be 250 km/h. 

Along with this, the authorities have noted that the maximum capacity of the train would be around 750 passengers per trip. 

Land acquired for the completion of the project -  

As mentioned above, land of approximately 343 villages of Punjab and Haryana will be acquired in order to complete the project. However, certain media reports have claimed that the owners of these lands will receive five times more compensation than the market value.
