The super-hit show India's Got Latent hosted by comedian Samay Raina has come under public scrutiny and even attracted Police action. India's Got Latent has come under the scanner after Ranveer Allahbadia was featured in its latest episode as a judge and cracked an incest joke over the mother-father relationship. While Mumbai Police have already received a complaint against Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia and the makers of India's Got Latent, Assam CM Himanta Bisa Sarma also announced Guwahati Police has filed an FIR against the comedian, influencers including Ashish Chanchalani and Apoorva Mukhija. Keeping the controversies aside, did you know that India's Got Latent is inspired by an American show? Below is all you need to know-
What is India's Got Latent?
India's Got Latent is basically a talent-cum-roasting show. Contestants come onto the stage where a panel of judges sit including Samay Raina. For episodes, Samay Raina calls a celebrity or controversial figure to judge the show. For instance, Samay Raina's India's Got Latent has featured judges like Rakhi Sawant, Deepak Kalal, Puneet Superstar, etc.
Notably, talent is not necessary to win India's Got Latent. However, the contestant's performance may be, if he or she comes up with a right prediction about the score they can get, then they win the amount of money raised from ticket sales. All judges' scores are added and then an average is taken out. If it matches the contestant's prediction written on a cue card, then the contestant wins.

Did you know India's Got Latent is inspired by an American show?
Fresh and raw content is delivered at India's Got Latent and this is its USP but it is also a fact that it is inspired by an American show. During ask me anything session on Reddit in December 2024, Samay Raina confirmed it.
A user on Reddit asked, "Hello Samay!!! Only one question - how did the idea of hosting a unique show like IGL come to your mind? Honestly, I'm hooked, and just keep on waiting for new episode drops. Thanks for creating a cure to my boredom!"
Responding to it, Samay Raina wrote, "Thank you so much! I always wanted to make a recurring show but didnt know what to make, i tried a few things but nothing that I felt was as fun to recreate every 10-15 days. Then I remember I used to host twitter spaces where i would interact with people and do sort of an interview and make them laugh. I realised i really enjoyed doing it and that’s when i knew i had to make an interactive show where I could talk to people."
"While researching I realised this show -Kill Tony was such a close representation of what I wanted. However i felt a pure uncut 3 hour standup show would be too monotonous for me to host and tbh i didn’t want to just rip off their format. I knew i had to make the show about ANY TALENT not just standup and I knew I had to create a point system to make it interesting," added Samay Raina.
