In May 1980, Anna skipped school after an argument with her mother. She went to her neighbour “Klaus Grabowski’s home to play with his cats, Klaus kidnapped her and sexually assaulted her for several hours later he strangled her with a pair of his fiancee's tights.

The police caught him with the help of his fiancee and the trial started. Marianne became frustrated with the legal system’s handling of the case. On a bold and controversial move she decided to take action on her own. On the third day of her trial, in March 1981, she shot Klaus seven times, out of which six bullets hit his body. He died on the spot. She then dropped the gun and surrendered without resisting. This case was widely reported in the media, as it was the first case of vigilante justice in Germany.
