A case of kidnapping and demanding ransom for the son of a former Akali Dal councillor from Nakodar has come to light in Jalandhar, Punjab. The police have registered a case against three people including a Punjab Home Guard officer posted at Nakodar court. The accused Rohit Gill (Home Guard), resident of Jalandhar, his companion Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi and Jacobs have been booked under sections 386, 342, 506, 511 and 34 of the IPC.
Bhagwan Singh Pruthi, a resident of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Nakodar, told the police that he is a former Akali Dal councillor from Municipal Corporation Nakodar. Pruthi runs a shop named Khalsa Dairy in front of Civil Hospital Nakodar.
Last Saturday, his son Navjot Singh Pruthi alias Mani left for some work on Baba Muradshah Road at around 10:30 in the morning. Around 11:10 am, a WhatsApp call came from Navjot alias Mani's mobile. An unknown person was speaking on the call. The accused said to Pruthi, “We have caught your son consuming drugs, you come and meet us”. Pruthi informed the accused had demanded 50 thousand rupees. The accused had called him to meet in Taj City-2 Colony of Nakodar.
Pruthi then left with his elder son Jaspreet Singh with the money, when the accused called again and instructed them to wait for his friends to hand them the ransom.
After some time, two youths came on a Discover motorcycle without a number plate, which stopped at a distance of about 50 meters from the victim’s car, then that person made a WhatsApp call from the kidnapped's mobile phone. The accused informed the victims that his friends have reached them. The victim to told the accused to come to the car and take the money, but they instead fled towards Jalandhar Road.
Pruthi then started looking for his son Navjot Singh. At around 7 pm, the kidnappers left the kidnapped victim at the gate of village Allowal. Pruthi's son panicked and called him and told him everything. Navjot was brought home where he informed that three youths had taken him from Baba Muradshah Road, South Adda, Nakodar to the petrol pump located in village Mudh in a Swift car.
Pruthi told that being a councillor, he has influence in Nakodar. Pruthi's son told that he was caught by Rohit Gill along with his companions. Rohit Gill is a Punjab Home Guard officer and was assigned duty at Nakodar Court. Rohit's companions Gurpreet Gopi and Jacob were involved with him. The police had registered a case after investigating the matter.
