Jalandhar, September 27: Jalandhar Commissionerate Police led by Commissioner of Police Mr. Swapan Sharma has busted a gang involved in defrauding various individuals by using fake Canadian visas by arresting the two key accused and recovering Rs 26. 70 lakh cash along with five passports from them.
Divulging more details, the Commissioner of Police said that Gurnam Singh, son of Kunnan Singh, from Village Talwandi Bhindra, Batala, District Gurdaspur had lodged a complaint with the Police. He said that in his complaint Gurnam Singh had said that he had handed over 25 original passports and money from himself and his relatives and acquaintances for Canadian tourist visas to Santosh Kumar, resident of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Mr. Swapan Sharma said that Santosh also resided in Dubai and his real name is Wajid Ali, son of Nijamuddin, resident of House No. N-274, Village Barsaini Tola, Ujdipatti, Post Office Hemdapur, Police Station Pipraich, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, and Munish Kumar, son of Gurdev Singh, resident of Teacher Colony, Ward No. 2, Balachaur, District SBS Nagar, near Patel Chowk, Jalandhar.
The Commissioner of Police said that payments to the accused were made both in cash and through bank transfers. He said that out of the original passports given for visa applications, Wajid Ali alias Santosh sent 22 passports with visas attached to Gurnam Singh via WhatsApp. Mr. Swapan Sharma said that upon checking, it was found that these visas were fake, and bogus Canada tourist visa stickers were pasted on them.
The Commissioner of Police said that based on complaint FIR No. 98 dated 21.09.2024 u/s 406, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 IPC, was registered at PS Div No. 2 Jalandhar. Subsequently, he said that both the accused Santosh Kumar alias Wajid Ali and Munish Kumar were arrested by Police from Sabji Mandi, near Dolphin Hotel, Jalandhar. Mr. Swapan Sharma said that further investigations into the case are going on and details will be shared later.
