However, days before Guru Randhawa Punjabi film release, the actor & singer is in controversy after he and the makers have been accused of showing Pakistan in a positive light and sympathising with India's arch-rival & neighbor. Directed by Rajiv Dhingra, Shahkot features Guru Randhawa, Isha Talwar, Gurshabad, Hardeep Gill, Seema Kaushal, Neha Dayal, Manpreet Singh and more in the leading roles. Notably, just a few days before its release, Guru Randhawa's reaction has come on the Pakistan-support controversy. Below is what Guru Randhawa said on Shahkot movie Pakistan controversy-
Guru Randhawa while talking to a newswire urged people to support cinema, stating, “Cinema grows when we support it. I’ve made this Punjabi film with all my heart. I appeal to everyone to watch it and support us, so we can continue making quality films in the future.”
On some critics claiming that the film shows support for Pakistan, Guru Randhawa expressed his disappointment. The Punjabi singer & actor said, “I don’t know what they saw in the trailer, but they are fueling unnecessary opposition. There is nothing controversial in the film. It’s a beautiful love story. Films like this have been made before and will continue to be made in the future. Once they watch it, their concerns will be resolved."
Why Guru Randhawa's Punjabi movie is under the scanner?
As per reports, some protesters are also calling for the removal of objectionable scenes from the film. Randhawa responded to these concerns, explaining, “People are forming opinions based on the trailer, but once they see the entire film, they’ll realize there’s nothing to object to. I urge those protesting to watch it with an open mind.”
For the unversed, in a recent protest, members of the Punjab unit of Shiv Sena demonstrated against the film by burning posters and chanting anti-Pakistan slogans. Shahkot is a love story that revolves around a man, played by Guru Randhawa, who travels from Shahkot, Punjab, to Pakistan, where he falls in love with a Pakistani woman.
