The recent deportation of Indian immigrants from the United States has left families in Punjab in financial and emotional distress. Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration carried out a strict crackdown, enforcing its policy that illegal immigrant residing unlawfully would be deported back to their countries. As a result, 104 passengers, including 30 from Punjab, were sent back to India.
The deportees are being transported by a US military C-17 aircraft, marking a significant operation in the ongoing enforcement of U.S. immigration policies.
This afternoon, a C-17 aircraft of the U.S. Air Force landed at Amritsar Airport at 1:30 PM, carrying the deported individuals. Among them were two residents of Hoshiarpur, including Harwinder Singh from Tali village, under Tanda Urmar block.
Harwinder’s wife shared that they had taken a Rs 42 lakh loan at interest to send him abroad for work. Their household consists of three children and elderly parents.
However, with his sudden deportation, the family is now in deep financial crisis, unsure of how to repay the massive debt while struggling to meet daily expenses. The shocking news has sparked concern in their village.
This deportation aligns with the U.S. administration’s intensified efforts to enforce immigration laws. A spokesperson from the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi stated, “The United States is vigorously enforcing its border, tightening immigration laws, and removing illegal migrants. These actions send a clear message: illegal migration is not worth the risk.”
The deportation of Indian immigrants under the Trump administration’s policies has raised serious concerns among aspiring migrants, leaving many questioning their future prospects and the high financial risks involved in seeking work abroad.
