Due to Maha Kumbh 2025, airfares to Prayagraj have skyrocketed, with roundtrip tickets reaching up to Rs 50,000 from major Indian cities. Additionally, trains to Prayagraj are also fully booked.
Following this, the Directorate General Civil Aviation (DGCA) held discussions with airline representatives on 23rd January and urged airlines to reduce the price of flight tickets.
On 25th January, DGCA shared a post on X, informing about the additional flights to Prayagraj. The post read, “In view of likely surge in demand, DG (CA) met airlines on 23 January 2025 and urged them to increase further capacity by adding flights and rationalize fares. To meet increased demand for air travel to Prayag Raj during Mahakumbh, DGCA has approved 81 additional flights in January, raising Prayagraj connectivity to 132 flights from across India.”
As per India TV, on Thursday, the IndiGo airline reduced the price of flight tickets by 30-50% on Prayagraj route. Now, on IndiGo's website, the price of flight tickets on Prayagraj route have decreased.
Now, a ticket from Delhi to Prayagraj for 2nd February is available for Rs 13,513. Apart from this, the website is showing the same ticket price for 2nd to 15th February. The flight ticket price from Mumbai to Prayagraj for 3rd February is Rs 20,606.
IndiGo stated in a release, “The airline has also ensured to stabilise airfares and is committed to providing the best possible travel experience to all its customers.”
Maha Kumbh 2025 had begun on 13th January 2025, in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Devotees took their first royal bath at Triveni Sangam. The first bath started at 4 AM on Paush Purnima. According to reports, a total of 1 crore 65 lakh devotees took a dip on the first day at 44 ghats.
