In a major development, Punjab's pro-Khalistan MP Amritpal Singh's new political party on Tuesday was launched. Waris Punjab De Chief Amritpal Singh is currently lodged in Dibrugarh Jail on NSA charges. Amritpal fought the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 as an independent candidate and won by a record margin from Khadoor Sahib. Amritpal was also granted provision bail during which he was taken to the Parliament of India where he was administered oath by the President of India. Following that he was taken back to the Dibrugarh Jail.

Talking about Amritpal Singh's new political party, it has been named 'Akali Dal Waris Punjab De'. It was announced at a political conference at Muktsar's Maghi fair on Tuesday. The Khadoor Sahib MP has been made the president of the party. Since Amritpal is currently in jail, a committee has been formed to run the party.

Amritpal's father Tarsem Singh and Faridkot independent MP Sarbjit Singh were also present during this time. Party leader Jaskaran Singh Kahan Singh Wala said that 3 names were sent to the Election Commission for the party, out of which this name has been approved.

Amritpal Singh's political party in some way coincides with Shiromani Akali Dal. Meaning, Amritpal's new party may dent SAD as till now it was the biggest face of Panthic politics.

Amritpal's party has come at a time when the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is facing multiple challenges on the poll ground. At present, Akali Dal has only one MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Recently, Khalistan supporters Amritpal Singh and Sarbjit Singh Khalsa have become MPs. Both had won the elections as independents.

As per reports, Akali Dal Waris Punjab De has made three major promises-

  • Protecting the interests of the Sikh community
  • Focusing on unemployment, agricultural crisis, and environmental protection
  • Raising voices against the growing drug menace in Punjab
