Jalandhar Police Commissioner Mr Swapan Sharma on Wednesday solicited fulsome support and cooperation of the general public to make Jalandhar a crime free city.
Addressing the gathering during a function to mark one month of Sehyog campaign, the Commissioner of Police said that the Commissionerate Police has identified 850 organisations in the city. He said that during one month the Police has held more than 500 meetings with these organisations to seek their support for tackling the crime. Mr Swapan Sharma said that the main concern is to enhance public Police participation for checking the crime rate in the city.
The Commissioner of Police said that the major thrust area of Police has been to check crime, curb the menace of traffic, and wean away the scourge of drugs. He said that during more than 500 meetings the views of the general public were taken and then action was taken on it. Mr Swapan Sharma said that based on public inputs action plan based on three categories was chalked out to facilitate the general public.
The Commissioner of Police said that the aim is to bring positive change in society for which a proactive role should be played by people. He said that the Basic motive is to ensure better coordination and communication between police and the public. Mr Swapan Sharma said that feedback is the most important aspect of this campaign for getting more and more information from the general public.
Soliciting maximum support and cooperation from people, the Commissioner of Police said that it is the need of the hour to solve the majority of issues faced by the city and its residents. He said that law enforcement, tracing of crime, and surveillance are the basic duty of Police and Commissionerate Police is committed to it. However, Mr Swapan Sharma said that to discharge this duty efficaciously the proactive support of the common people is a must for which this campaign will act as a catalyst.
