Jalandhar CP arrests 2 Lawrence Bishnoi gang members after brief encounter; 3 weapons recovered

Jalandhar Commissionerate Police arrested two notorious members of Lawrence Bishnoi gang following an intense shootout at the outskirts of Jalandhar Cantonment.

In a significant breakthrough, Jalandhar Commissionerate Police arrested two notorious members of Lawrence Bishnoi gang following an intense shootout at the outskirts of Jalandhar Cantonment and recovered three weapons along with magazines and cartridges from their possession, said Commissioner of Police (CP) Jalandhar Swapan Sharma here on Wednesday.

Those arrested have been identified as Harinder Singh alias Hinda of Mahadipur Jattan in Adampur, Jalandhar and Sukhmanjit Singh alias Sukhman of New Deol Nagar in Jalandhar. Both were apprehended in connection with an ongoing investigation in the FIR registered under various sections of the Arms Act registered at Police Station Bhargo Camp, Jalandhar. Four individuals had already been arrested after police had recovered Five weapons from their possession.

Divulging details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Jalandhar Swapan Sharma said that following disclosures of arrested accused persons, police teams were taking both the accused persons to the desolated place at the outskirts of the Jalandhar Contonment, where they claimed to have concealed arms and ammunition.

"During the recovery operation, accused Sukhmanjit Singh opened fire at the police teams, prompting retaliatory action. Both accused were apprehended, and Sukhmanjit Singh sustained bullet injuries in the exchange of fire," he said, while adding that at least 13 rounds of fires were exchanged during the encounter.

He said that, during the operation, accused Sukhmanjit sustained bullet injuries and Harinder got some minor injuries and both are being undergone medical treatment at local hospital.

The CP Jalandhar revealed that the arrested individuals were involved in numerous heinous crimes, including extortion, murder, Arms Act and NDPS Act. Investigations are ongoing to unravel their criminal network and establish connections with other organised crime groups, he added.
