After being declared a hit at the box office, Jigra was released on Netflix on December 6, 2024. While Jigra witnessed a controversy between Divya Khosla Kumar and Karan Johar, the movie has been receiving massive praise on social media. Directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra is an action thriller that revolves around the bond between a sister and a brother. Where is Hanshi Dao Island?
As shown in the movie Jigra, Vedang Raina who plays Ankur goes on a business trip at Hanshi Dao Island along with his cousin. However, Ankur and his cousin get arrested on Hanshi Dao Island due to possession of drugs. Following that Ankur was framed over drug trafficking charges. Hanshi Dao is famous for its severe punishment against drug traffickers. In Hanshi Dao Island, there is only one punishment for convicts i.e. death.
Alia who plays Satya Anand mentions in one of the scenes that the country imposes a penalty even for laughing and crying. The characters are shown speaking Mandarin, signifying it is in East Asia with Chinese influence.
Is Hanshi Dao Island real?
The answer is no. The makes of the movie showcased that Hanshi Dao is an island located to the south of Malaysia, just off the coast of the southeast Asian country. However, in reality, there is no Hanshi Dao Island. There is no island nation next to Malaysia but there are two small countries bordering it, i.e. Singapore and Indonesia.

Furthermore, the festivals and autocratic tendencies shown in lia Bhatt's movie are similar to Hong Kong and North Korea.

A person caught with drugs such as marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine or methamphetamine for personal use can be sentenced to up to four years in prison or forced rehabilitation.
