Lawrence Bishnoi was born on 12 February 1993 in Fazilka, Punjab. Lawrence's father was a police constable. His mother named him Lawrence. Lawrence is a Christian name, which means clean and shining white. However, Lawrence Bishnoi's real name in police records is Satwinder Singh.
Lawrence was very active and sporty since childhood. He used to wrestle, but his father dreamed that his son should become an IAS officer. After completing his 12th from Abohar, Lawrence went to Chandigarh. In Chandigarh, he took admission in DAV College.
Gradually he started taking an interest in student politics and during his time at college he became friends with Goldie Brar. The same Goldie Brar, who works for the Lawrence Bishnoi gang while sitting abroad.
In 2011, Lawrence formed an organization to contest elections. It was named 'Student Organization of Punjab University' i.e. SOPU. He contested the elections under this banner, but lost. After the defeat, Lawrence started feeling humiliated. Lawrence decided to take revenge over this. The same year he bought a revolver and clashed with the gang at whose hands he had lost.
There was an argument and scuffle between the two gangs. Meanwhile, Lawrence opened fire. Then the Punjab Police registered a case of attempted murder against him. This was the first case against Lawrence.
Lawrence Bishnoi's girlfriend and start of his crime
After his arrest, Lawrence started getting involved in illegal activities. He joined the gang of gangsters Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Rocky Fazilka. Bhagwanpuria was a resident of Gurdaspur. He not only taught Lawrence the tricks of the trade but also gave him a free hand in his work.
As per reports, while studying in college, Lawrence Bishnoi was friends with a girl, which later turned into love. Reports suggest that Lawrence Bishnoi's girlfriend was killed in a gang war after losing the election. After which he entered the world of crime.
Later, Lawrence became friends with Sampat Nehra. Sampat was the son of a police inspector. He was also very interested in sports. Lawrence, Goldie, and Sampat together started committing crimes in Punjab as well as Haryana. This trio allied with Kala Jathedi in Haryana and Jitendra Gogi in Delhi. Anandpal and later his disciple Anuradha became partners in Rajasthan.
From here Lawrence Bishnoi got involved in organized crime. He started demanding ransom from the liquor mafia, drug smugglers, and businessmen. In 2012-13, when cases were registered against him, he left home. Then he started living in different cities with the group.
In 2014, Lawrence Bishnoi was arrested in Rajasthan and sent to Bharatpur jail. However, he could not remain in police custody for long.
When he was being taken to Mohali for production, he escaped from police custody from there. He fled to Nepal. He stayed in Nepal for several months and continued his activities from there. Lawrence was arrested again in 2016. Since then he is in jail. Currently, Lawrence is lodged in Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat.
Cases against Lawrence Bishnoi
Two dozen criminal cases including murder and extortion are registered against Lawrence. ED and NIA are investigating against him. On August 30, 2023, the Union Home Ministry also imposed Section 268 (1) of CrPC on Lawrence, so that he cannot be brought out of Sabarmati Jail for a year under any circumstances. His appearance is now done through video conferencing.
High Profile crimes carried out by Lawrence Bishnoi and his gang
1. Murder of Sidhu Moosewala, 24 bullets fired in one minute
On 29 May 2022, famous Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala was going to eat chaat sitting in Thar. This car was given by one of his fans. After driving some distance, Sidhu Moosewala felt that someone was following him, but he did not pay much attention. In a few minutes, a car came in front of Sidhu's car while overtaking. A young man pointed a gun at Sidhu.
Sidhu also started firing immediately. Firing continued from both sides for about a minute. Sidhu died in this firing. In the post-mortem report, 24 bullet marks were found on Sidhu's body. Lawrence's partner Goldie Brar had taken responsibility for the murder of Sidhu Moosewala. He, along with Lawrence Bishnoi, lodged in Tihar Jail, made the complete plan to kill Sidhu Moosewala and then carried out the murder through his shooters.
2. Kept firing at Jaipur's G Club for 10 minutes
In January 2023, a party was going on at the G Club in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. Some miscreants arrived here around 11:30 pm. They argued with the people partying, after that the miscreants returned. After a few minutes, two miscreants came on a bike and opened indiscriminate fire at the gate of the club. They kept firing continuously for about 10 minutes. The security guards of the G Club had closed the main gate inside and outside. In such a situation, there were no casualties during the firing. Later, a man named Hrithik Boxer of Lawrence Bishnoi Gang took responsibility for the attack by posting on social media.
3. Murder of National Rajput Karni Sena President Sukhdev Gogamedi
On 5 December 2023, three miscreants entered the house of National Rajput Karni Sena President Sukhdev Gogamedi and started firing bullets. Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi was taken to a private hospital in Mansarovar in critical condition, where he was declared dead. One shooter also lost his life in this attack. Rohit Godara of Lawrence Gang took responsibility for the attack by posting on social media.
4. Salman Khan's house targeted, 5 rounds fired
On 14 April 2024, at 4.51 am. two bike riders reached actor Salman Khan's Bandra Galaxy Apartment. Both fired 5 rounds. In this firing, one bullet hit the wall of Salman's house, while another bullet hit the wall of his drawing room, ripping the net installed at Salman's house. After the firing, both the shooters fled leaving their bike on the spot. Later, Lawrence's brother Anmol took responsibility for the attack by posting on social media.
Lawrence Bishnoi's crime world & 700 active shooters around the world
Lawrence gang includes professional shooters. They operate from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh and their network is spread across the world. It is said that his gang has more than 700 shooters, out of which more than 300 are associated with Punjab. However, the gang runs on the orders of only two people. First Lawrence Bishnoi and second Goldie Brar. The decision to commit a big crime is taken by Lawrence Bishnoi.
While in jail, Lawrence sends money to his shooters through hawala. Lawrence's henchmen send the numbers of liquor traders, businessmen, and bookies to him in jail. Lawrence extorts crores from these people by threatening them. Lawrence had told the investigating agency NIA that apart from Tihar, he had extorted crores from many businessmen while staying in Bharatpur jail in Rajasthan and Faridkot jail in Punjab.
Lawrence gang was earlier limited to Punjab only. Later, they made social media a means of propaganda. Lawrence Bishnoi, along with his close associate Goldie Brar, formed an alliance with gangs from Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan and formed a big gang. The Bishnoi gang has now spread across North India, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan and Jharkhand.
According to the report, apart from Madhya Pradesh, UP, and Bihar, weapons reach them from Punjab bordering Pakistan. Apart from this, these people also procure weapons from Pakistan, the USA, Russia, Canada, and Nepal.
Brainwashing of minors works like a sleeper cell
Lawrence Bishnoi and his henchmen are recruiting minors as sleeper cells through social media. They brainwash minors. In February this year, 22 delinquents escaped from the juvenile correction home in Rajasthan. One of Lawrence's henchmen was also among them, who had fired at the G Club in Jaipur in 2023.
It is said that Lawrence's henchmen had formed a gang inside the juvenile correction home. Chaiwalas and guards used to supply goods from outside. Last year, Jaipur police had mentioned Lawrence's sleeper cell in its charge sheet.
One of Lawrence's henchmen had told the police that we get up to Rs 10 lakh for completing a target. If they are caught before completing the target, then after being released from jail, they again fire at those places where they had done recce earlier.
The henchmen associated with the sleeper cell stay in touch through box calls to avoid the police and investigation agencies. By making box calls, the call cannot be intercepted, nor can the call be located.
To join the gang, boys are lured with branded clothes, money and the promise of settling abroad. New members are added through Facebook and Instagram.
It is pertinent to mention here that Lawrence has not yet applied for bail. Experts believe that he is doing this deliberately. He knows that the safest place for him is the jail. Former Director General of Tihar Jail Sanjay Beniwal was quoted saying, "Lawrence Bishnoi's networking is tremendous outside the jail. He considers jail to be the safest place for himself. That is why he never wants to go out. He wants that he should always be kept in a high-security jail so that his enemies outside the jail cannot reach him."
NIA also said in its report last year that Lawrence's network had become stronger while he was inside the jail. While in jail, he became friends with another gangster. Then his henchmen together strengthened the network outside the jail. They started doing ransom and target killing from the same network.
