Ludhiana: B.Com student of PCTE college dies by suicide after being caught cheating during exam

After being caught cheating on his EVS exam, the student then reportedly jumped off the seventh floor, the college’s engineering department.

A first year B.Com student of Punjab College of Technical Education (PCTE), Ludhiana in Punjab, jumped to his death from the 7th floor of the college’s engineering department. According to reports, the student, identified as Shamsher Singh Grewal, had come to the college for his Environmental Science (EVS) exam. He was caught cheating on his exam and instructed to go home after being denied to complete the examination.

Following this, the student reportedly went to the engineering department of the college and jumped from the 7th floor of the building. He was then rushed to DMC hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and died during treatment.

According to reports, college Director Dr. Naresh Sachdev said that the examination started at 9.30 am today. Today was the Environmental Science (EVS) exam and Shamsher was also appearing. During the examination, the invigilator suspected that Shamsher was cheating. Upon searching the student, he found answer slips in the student’s geometry box.

After this the teacher took Shamsher to the Examiner Superintendent. During interrogation, Shamsher himself told the Superintendent that he had copied the answers from the slips. He also confessed this in writing.

The director said that after being caught cheating, the student was asked to go home, following which he left the examination center and went to the engineering block building of the college. From there, he jumped from the 7th floor.

As soon as information was received, Shamsher was taken to DMC hospital, where he died during treatment.

Dr. Naresh Sachdev says that the answers to many questions matched in the slips received from the student. Those answers were enough for him to pass. Therefore, citing his mistake, he was sent home. The deceased’s family members have been informed of the incident. Meanwhile, Dakha police station is investigating the matter.
