Kumbh Mela is an important Hindu pilgrimage. It is celebrated approximately every 12 years, for each revolution of Jupiter planet. It attracts the largest recorded public gatherings of Hindus.
Kumbh is held at a total of four riverside pilgrimage sites, including, Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik and Ujjain. In Maha Kumbh 2025, devotees took their first royal bath at Triveni Sangam.
Maha Kumbh 2025 began on 13th January 2025, in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The first bath started at 4 AM on Paush Purnima. According to reports, a total of 1 crore 65 lakh devotees took a dip on the first day at 44 ghats. Additionally, flowers were showered on the devotees from helicopters.

As per Hindu mythology, when Jupiter completes its cycle of travelling through the 12 zodiac signs and comes back to Taurus, then the Maha Kumbh is organised.

In Maha Kumbh 2025, Budhaditya Yog, Kumbha Yog, Shravan Nakshatra and Siddhi Yog have been formed. In Maha Kumbh 2025, after a span of 144 years, a Yog like Samudra Manthan has been formed again.
According to the astrologers, due to the position of Sun and Moon in Shravan Nakshatra Siddhi Yog and high Venus and Saturn in Aquarius, Maha Kumbh bath will prove to be extremely beneficial.
It is said that by taking bath at Triveni Ghat in Maha Kumbh, a person can get freedom from all the sins of life. Bathing at Triveni Ghat can purify both the soul and the body of a person.
