A day after warning Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars to return to duty and stop the mass leave protest, Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday transferred 58 Sub-Registrars and 177 joint Sub-Registrars. The Department of Revenue and Rehabilitation under the Government of Punjab issued the transfer orders of Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars. On Tuesday evening, the government of Punjab has announced the suspension of 14 Tehsildars following the “mass leave” and not returning even after Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s call. Notably, CM Mann firmly asked the tehsildars (revenue officers) to return to their respective jobs by 5 pm or else they all would have to face suspension.

According to the official details, following the ultimatum offered by the government, several officers returned to their work from districts including Mohali, Sangrur, and Moga, whereas some continued their protest and now have been asked to leave their jobs.  While taking action against these Tehsildars, the government released a list with the names of all 14 Tehsildars who did not comply with the orders.

Why did the Revenue Officers go on mass leave?

The Revenue officers went on a mass leave as protest against Punjab Vigilance Bureau. Protesting Tehsildars alleged that the Tehsils were being repeatedly checked. In Mansa, even revenue records were seized. The association demanded that the suspension orders of Tehsildars be revoked, or else they would intensify their protest.
