Ludhiana-Bathinda National Highway Project

Construction of the Ludhiana-Bathinda National Highway Project has already started. . It is said to be a pivotal project designed to streamline transportation between these major cities. This six-lane, 75.54-kilometer-long highway will link Ballowal village on the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway with Rampura Phul on the Amritsar-Bathinda expressway. With an investment of Rs 2,461.64 crore, the project aims to facilitate smoother and faster commutes between Ludhiana and Bathinda.  The new Ludhiana-Bathinda Expressway will pass through 36 villages in three districts. The highway will pass through 36 villages in Ludhiana and Raikot tehsils, Barnala and Tapa tehsils and Rampura Phul tehsil in Bathinda district.

Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway

The Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway is one of the most awaited mega road project for not only Punjab but also Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir. . Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway is a transformative initiative poised to redefine travel between Delhi, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir. This 670-kilometer, four-lane (expandable to eight lanes) controlled-access expressway will reduce the Delhi-Katra distance from 727 kilometers to 588 kilometers, cutting travel time from 14 hours to approximately 6 hours. 
 
Similarly, the Delhi-Amritsar journey will be shortened to about four hours. The expressway will feature amenities such as trauma centers, ambulances, fire brigades, traffic police, bus bays, and truck stops, enhancing safety and convenience for travelers.  

Link Roads to Enhance Connectivity

To further improve connectivity, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for three link roads. One notable proposal includes a 20-kilometer link road connecting the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) via the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway to the Delhi-Katra Expressway. This link aims to provide direct and seamless connectivity for vehicles coming from Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The estimated cost for this project is around Rs 2,500 crore.  

Roads of Jalandhar, Amritsar, & Ludhiana to be upgraded

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema announced that the people of Punjab will now be able to see sights of Germany, France, and Australia in Punjab itself. Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said that there are so many road accidents, and this project is being brought to reduce traffic problems. 

 Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said that the Punjab government has set a target of 8 months to complete this project.
