In a major development, the National Investigation Team (NIA) carried out multiple raids linked to Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh on Friday morning.  NIA sleuths raided Amritpal Singh's relatives' houses in Moga and Amritsar in Punjab at around 6 am. The NIA team reached 3 places in Amritsar and one place in Moga. The officials searched everything from beds to cupboards.

The team reached the house of Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh's uncle Pragat Singh on Pheruman Road in Raiya, Amritsar. Pragat Singh's uncle works deals in furniture. The second raid took place at Amritpal's brother-in-law's house in Butala near Sathiyala in Amritsar.

Along with this, the team has also reached the house of Amritpal's brother-in-law's brother-in-law. All three raids are related to Amritpal.

The reason for the NIA raid on Amritpal Singh's relatives is said to collect evidence and information against the Pro Khalistan leader related to foreign funding. On the other hand, Amritpal Singh's team has accused the NIA of harassing them.

Notably, reports suggest that NIA teams also reached the house of Kavi Shri Makhan Singh Musafir in Smallsar town of Baghapurana constituency in Moga at 6 am. It is not yet clear for what purpose the raid was conducted here. It is likely that this raid is also related to Amritpal Singh.

Amritpal Singh's team reaction on NIA raids

On NIA raids, a member of Amritpal Singh's team reportedly said that since the stage was decorated by Amritpal Singh's supporters at Rakhad Punia in Baba Bakala Sahib, the central and state governments have become nervous. Today, raids have been conducted at the houses of Amritpal Singh's uncle, brother-in-law, and other relatives and they have been harassed illegally. Amritpal Singh won the Lok Sabha elections by 1.97 lakh votes. Instead of leaving him alone, the government is harassing him.

Amritpal Singh, a resident of Jallupur Kheda village, about 40 km from Amritsar, is the head of the Waris Punjab De organisation. He became MP from the Khadoor Sahib seat by defeating Congress' Kulbir Singh Zira.

On 23 February 2023, a crowd of thousands of people led by Amritpal Singh entered the Ajnala police station in Amritsar. After this, a non-bailable warrant was issued against him. On March 18, Amritpal fled from home. The police and investigating agencies kept looking for him for a month. On April 23, the Punjab Police arrested Amritpal from Moga.

Since then Amritpal has been lodged in Dibrugarh jail in Assam. The National Security Act (NSA) has been imposed on him. Amritpal was not allowed to come out of jail for Lok Sabha election campaign, despite this he got more than 4 lakh votes.
