The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has registered a corruption case against Vikas Soni, a revenue official (Patwari) posted in Jagraon, Ludhiana district, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹1500 in exchange for issuing a mutation copy and demanding additional bribes.
Providing details, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau stated that the case was registered based on a complaint filed by Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Leelan village, Ludhiana district, through the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line.
In his complaint, the complainant alleged that his wife had sold land to other individuals, but the mutation (Intkal) had not been transferred to the buyers’ names. According to the complainant, the Patwari demanded a bribe of ₹8000 to issue the mutation copy. However, the amount was negotiated down to ₹5000, out of which the accused Patwari accepted ₹1500 and demanded the remaining ₹3500 later.
The spokesperson further mentioned that during the investigation, the allegations made in the complaint were found to be true. Consequently, a case has been registered against the accused Patwari under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Ludhiana Range. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
