Punjab breaks weather records: January temperature crosses 23°C, rain expected on THIS date

Punjab weather has been breaking records this January, with temperatures continuously rising above seasonal averages. Yesterday, the recorded temperature exceeded 23°C, which is 4 degrees higher than usual.

Dr. Pavneet Kaur Kingra, a weather expert from PAU, informed that temperature is higher than normal in Punjab. Last January, the cold was much harsher, but this year it isn’t severe.

The last time such a high temperature was recorded in January was in 2001, and data from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) dating back to 1970 confirms that this is the second time in 50 years that January has seen such a significant temperature rise. Previously, in January 2001, the temperature had touched 26°C.

Additionally, on 3rd and 4th February, light rainfall is expected in certain areas, which may lead to a drop in temperature. She also stated that continuous weather fluctuations are being observed, impacting both agriculture and human health. There are chances of rain in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan between 3rd and 5th February.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of major changes in the weather across the country in the next few days. As per IMD, two western disturbances are going to be active on 1st February and 3rd February, which will affect the weather in over 20 states.

This western disturbance will have a greater effect in the northwestern states including Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Rajasthan.

In view of the changing weather across the country in the next few days, people have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
