Several farmers from Punjab set off on their march to Delhi today, i.e. February 12 in light of the Delhi Chalo march. In a statement from Kisan Union leaders, they mentioned stopping the rails on February 16 stirring panic amongst the commuters looking to travel between Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. But despite this, no noticeable change in the train schedule has been noticed, and they are expected to continue functioning normally in the days leading up to the protest.

Panic gripped the people wherein it was believed that train routes in between these states would be cancelled as well. Though it was announced by the farmers’ union that train routes could be closed off on February 16, there is no halt to be expected in the days leading up to the protest. Hence all the train routes from Amritsar-Delhi, including the Vande Bharat and Shatabdi Express, seem to be continuing ceaselessly. Though sources say that trains are running a little late due to weather issues, but no obstruction have yet been faced due to the Farmer’s protest.

Farmers from across the country are moving to Delhi to stage a protest in order to pressure the Central Government to accept their demands regarding MSP (Minimum Support Price), pensions, debt waivers and justice for victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence among others. In light of this, the Delhi and Haryana Government has closed off several routes and completely barricaded the Shambhu border between Punjab and Haryana. Traffic is being diverted from the National Highway to Delhi. All of this resulted massive traffic jams causing trouble for commuters looking to travel from Punjab to Haryana and Delhi through roads.

A meeting between the farmers is set to be held in Chandigarh with three central ministers, the results of which are awaited by the farmers following talks regarding the situation in Delhi will be held as well. The farmers are adamant for their demands to be accepted. The internet is ablaze with support for the farmers, saying that they will go to the ends of the earth for their quest of righteous justice.
