Himachal Pradesh has been witnessing intense snowfall in multiple districts and hill stations resulting in a slump in temperature. As a result, Punjab and other surrounding states have been witnessing cold waves. Now, the weather department has predicted that multiple districts and cities of Punjab may witness rainfall for three days.
The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave and fog alert in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda and Ludhiana on December 25, 2025. However, there is a possibility of rain in some places from December 26 to December 28. Western disturbances are likely to become active at that time. There is also a possibility of hailstorms and thunderstorms during this period.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana predicted light rain from December 26 to 28, which is expected to benefit crops. Dr. Pavneet Kaur, a weather expert, stated that although the rain has been light (below 3 mm so far), it will help relieve the dry cold that has caused health issues in recent months. The rain will also increase the overall cold but provide relief from the persistent dry chill.
However, the temperature of the state has increased by 4.7 degrees in the last 24 hours. It has now reached close to normal. Hoshiarpur has recorded the highest temperature of 21.6 degrees.
