The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning in its prediction that multiple states of India will face an exceptionally hot summer starting from April 2025. The Indian weather department forecasts six to ten heatwave days from April to June, potentially increasing to 10-11 by June. In normal situations, India experiences four to seven heatwave days during this period. However, this year (2025), the frequency is predicted to be higher. Punjab is also among the list of states that will witness above-normal heatwave days.
In terms of Punjab Summer Prediction, Apple Weather App also forecasts that in April's second week, temperatures in multiple cities of the state including Jalandhar will cross the 40°C mark. To be precise, the Apple Weather App predicts that next Thursday, Jalandhar's maximum temperature will touch 43°C. Ludhiana's maximum temperature will remain constant at 40°C on upcoming Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. A similar forecast is for Amritsar. Gurdaspur will also witness a scorching temperature of 43°C on next Thursday.
What did the IMD's warning say?
IMD on Monday warned that the April-June period would be hotter than usual and more heatwave days are likely in many states, including Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Eastern states such as Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand are expected to endure six heatwave days, while Delhi and parts of northwest India may face two to three such days during the same period.
In total, eastern India is likely to experience 10-12 heatwave days over the three months i.e. April to June. States likely to see above-normal heatwave days include Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and the northern parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

As per IMD Chandigarh's daily forecast, Bathinda was the hottest in Punjab on March 31, 2025. Bathinda's maximum temperature soared up to 34.6°C on March 31. Amritsar's maximum temperature was 31°C, Ludhiana- 32.5°C, Patiala-33.4°C, Pathankot- 31.7°C, Gurdaspur- 32. 5°C, etc.
