Punjab weather update: Rain alert for 13 districts, weather change expected from THIS date

On 4th February, Tuesday, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in Punjab. This alert is not about fog or cold wave, but has been issued regarding the possibility of rain in Punjab till 5th February.

Despite this, the day has started with dense fog today. Visibility has reached zero in many areas. A new western disturbance has become active since last Monday. The effect of this western disturbance will remain till 5th February.

As per the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain and strong winds in Pathankot, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Nawanshahr, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Barnala, Sangrur and Patiala in Punjab.

The average maximum temperature on Sunday has dropped by 2.6 degrees Celsius as compared to Saturday. However, the temperature in the state is close to normal. The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at 23.1 degrees Celsius in Bathinda.

After this western disturbance becomes active, its effect will also be seen in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

As of now, there will be light clouds and there are also chances of rain and storm in Amritsar and Jalandhar. The temperature is expected to be between 7 to 18 degrees in Amritsar whereas the temperature is expected to be between 9 to 15 degrees in Jalandhar.

Previously, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a warning of major changes in the weather across the country in the next few days. As per IMD, two western disturbances were going to get active on 1st February and 3rd February, that would affect the weather in over 20 states. There is a possibility of rain, snowfall and dense fog in many areas as the effect may continue till 5th February.
