Punjab is experiencing notable weather changes, with temperatures getting higher than usual. Recently, at Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana, a maximum temperature of 24°C was recorded, which is 4°C above the average for this time of year.

In addition, the minimum temperature stood at 9°C, exceeding the typical value by 2°C. These fluctuations in the temperature indicate a warming trend in the region as well.

According to the Meteorological Department of Punjab Agricultural University, there no rainfall is predicted in the coming days. Additionally, temperatures are expected to rise further.

Dr. Pavneet Kaur Kingra, Head of the Department of Climate Change & Agricultural Meteorology at the university, stated that only if there will be snowfall in the mountainous regions, then the temperatures in the plains will decrease. However, the weather is expected to remain stable.

Currently, there is no indication of any western disturbances, which could have brought cooler temperatures and precipitation. As a result, temperatures may continue to increase.

These unseasonal temperature variations are a cause for concern, especially for winter-sown crops like wheat, rapeseed, and chickpeas, which need cool weather for optimal growth.

According to meteorologists, the day temperature is constantly increasing and by the end of February it may reach 30 degrees or above.

The India Meteorological Department has indicated that above-average temperatures and below-normal rainfall in February could adversely affect these crops, leading to early maturity and potentially reduced yields.

In view of the changing weather across the country in the next few days, people have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

Residents and farmers are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions in order to mitigate the impact of the rising temperatures.
