With a few days to go before the end of January 2025, Punjab has been witnessing 'weird' winter weather. During day time, most of the cities in Punjab are witnessing a relatively higher daytime temperature as compared to previous years, on the other hand, the temperature is falling below 5°C at night. Talking about Punjab Weather Today i.e. Punjab Weather January 27, a region of the state shivered at the minimum temperature of 0°C.
Yes! you heard it right. As per IMD Chandigarh, Faridkot's minimum temperature was registered at 0°C on January 27, 2025. On the other hand, the maximum temperature (day time) in the same region was registered at 23.2°C. IMD Chandigarh mentioned the region as 'Faridkot_AMFU(AWS)'. For the unversed,"Faridkot_AMFU (AWS)" refers to an automatic weather station operated by the Agro Meteorological Field Unit in the Faridkot district. AMFU refers to "Agro Meteorological Field Unit." These units are typically established to provide weather-related information to farmers and agricultural agencies.
On the other hand, AWS refers to "Automatic Weather Station." These stations are equipped with sensors to automatically measure various weather parameters like temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed, etc., and transmit the data to a central location.
Why is Punjab witnessing warm and cold weather?
As per reports, the current mild weather in Northern India including Delhi-NCR and the Indo-Gangetic plains is due to western disturbances blocking the flow of cold northwesterly winds. This has led to warmer temperatures. However, the hills have received encouraging snowfall this winter, which will replenish glaciers, improve water systems, and benefit agricultural crops like apples. After January 25, another cold wave will sweep across the Indo-Gangetic plains, bringing back the chill and setting the stage for a classic winter experience.
