Rajkumar Hirani aka Raju Hirani for the first time has broken his silence on the uproar that he had to bear over the years for his movie PK. PK was released in 2014 and it featured Aamir Khan, and Anushka Sharma in the key roles, while Sushant Singh Rajput in special appearances. While PK turned out to be a huge blockbuster for Aamir Khan, it also brought legal trouble and controversy for filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani and the Bollywood actor. One of the most famous controversies that erupted was over a scene when an actor dressed like Lord Shiva was seen running away in fear.
Rajkumar Hirani recently featured in a podcast with Komal Nahta during which he said, "PK is about exposing fake godmen. Our society is filled with them. We say that believe in God but not in fake godmen. But, particular things that were caught up in the movie are not the film. 'Aapne Ek Pehlu Utha Lia Ki Aap Ye keh Rahe Ho'. But if you watch the movie seriously, it does not convey that. If you watch the monologue of Aamir in that film when he says that there are two gods here, one who created us and one who we created. That was the crux of the movie. But, if out-of-context things are taken out then it is different."
Hirani also highlighted that they showcased Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi drinking in front of Mahatma Gandhi but that was appreciated. For the unversed, Hirani was talking about Lage Rahe Munna Bhai.
Are film-people easy targets?
Hirani said, "Why only film people? There is a saying when you throw stones at a high-rise building, your stature also increases. These things only make news. A lot of times all these things are for own publicity."
Update on Munna Bhai 3
On being asked why he left making sequels, especially Munna Bhai 3, Raju Hirani said, "I have not left it. I want to make it till now. Right now I have an idea that is with me for the past 2 to 3 years. Before that, I wrote Munna Bhai Chale America. But, the script did not go up to the point as expected, so I left it. Then some things turn outdated. Then I thought of Munna Bhai BA LLB, I wrote it as well but it is like if you don't have knowledge of a particular world, the script does not reach that conclusion."
"I felt that I needed to go deep into the legal world but till then Jolly LLB was made. It was quite a good movie. But, now, I have a subject for Munna Bhai 3 that is unique. I am working on it. Let's see where it goes. (Kayi baar aiesa hota hai ki aap 6 mahina kaam karey ho kabhi ban jata hai script kabhi ni ban pata) But I really want to make one," added Rajkumar Hirani.
