Boxer Real Story : The Polish drama movie Boxer was released on Netflix on September 11, 2024, and ever since then, the movie has been getting mixed reviews from not only fans but also from various critics. Although Boxer has not come in the top 10 most-watched movies of the week, the movie is gaining momentum slowly and steadily. Is Boxer a real story?
The answer is yes and no at the same time. While Netflix mentions that Boxer is a biographical drama, the makers have not revealed the name of the real-life boxer who fled Poland to become a boxer in the United Kingdom. Although the makers of Boxer have used Poland communism as the backdrop which is actually a true historical fact. Therefore, on Boxer Real Story question it can be said that the movie is not entirely true.
Talking about Boxer's storyline, the movie starts with a montage explaining how many people tried to escape communist Poland to pursue their dreams of being professional athletes, and the movie ends with another, essentially a tribute to all people who fled the country in the 1980s because the living conditions were so poor.
Interestingly, the makers have put "this could have happened” in the montage which hints that the story is original and not a true story of a certain person.
The movie revolves around Jedrzej (Kulm). Jedrzej, as a kid in the 1970s, watched his father box, and hoped to emulate his Olympic potential. However, Jedrzej watched as his old man lost a fight. After his father dies, Jedrzej trains under his uncle Czesiek (Eryk Lubos).
Jump to 1985. Jerdrzej is in the ring, landing and accepting punches. He wins the Polish Championship. However, that’s the ceiling in the communist Poland. He meets a sweetheart of a woman named Kasia (Chlebicka) and kerpow, they get married real quick and start dreaming: He wants to go to London to box, and she could go to university there.
