On 13th September, The Buckingham Murders, an Indian crime thriller film directed by Hansal Mehta, will get released in theatres. The movie is produced by Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor. The movie stars Kareena Kapoor Khan as Jasmeet Bhamra, Keith Allen as Mille and Ranveer Brar. The mysterious storyline of The Buckingham Murders has raised the curiosity level and viewers want to know whether the movie is based on a real-life story or if it is based on a novel or a book.

The answer to this question is no. The Buckingham Murders is neither based on a true story nor a novel or a book. The plot of the movie revolves around a British-Indian detective who is assigned the case of a 10-year-old murdered child in Buckinghamshire. Although the film is not based on any true events, the audience is claiming that it is inspired by Kate Winslet’s series 'Mare of Easttown'.

Recently, an X user stated that The Buckingham Murders resembles the series Mare of Easttown. The user posted, “Mare of Easttown ... God please!! Plz Get something original #TheBuckinghamMurders.”

Director Hansal Mehta responded to the post and said, “Decide after you watch. Don’t jump to conclusions.”

During the trailer launch of the movie, actress Kareena shared her admiration for Kate Winslet. She called herself a huge fan of Kate Winslet. However, the actress has clarified that although Kate Winslet is an inspiration for her, her character Jasmeet in The Buckingham Murders is her own interpretation and does not resemble to Kate Winslet’s character in the series Mare of Easttown. 

In an interview, actress Kareena Kapoor said, “I think I loved playing that part because this is the first time, I am playing a detective, and I am a huge crime drama fan. It’s a career-defining role for me and one of my best characters.” The actress has also shared that she has asked the director Hansal Mehta to make it a four-part series since she has enjoyed playing this character.
