A case of demanding a ransom of Rs 5 lakh from the famous Punjabi lyricist Harmanjit Singh Khyala has been registered. He has written the song Laung Lachi and the book Rani Tatt.
After the lyricist received the threat, the Sadar Police Station of Mansa has registered a case on the complaint of the lyricist and arrested a school teacher.
DSP of Mansa, Boota Singh Gill, told that a complaint was lodged by lyricist Harmanjit Singh that he had received a letter demanding a ransom of Rs 5 lakh and he had also received death threats. Sadar police of Mansa had registered a case and started the investigation immediately. After investigation, the police arrested a teacher.
Lyricist Harmanjit Singh is posted as a teacher in Kotlu village of Mansa district. Songs written by him have also been sung by singer Diljit Dosanjh. Harmanjit's songs are included in many Punjabi films.
He won the Yuva Puraskar for his book Rani Tatt. Rani Tatt is a work of poems and prose on Punjab. His lyrics have been sung also by artists like Sunidhi Chauhan, Neha Bhasin, Amrinder Gill, and Manpreet Singh. He is also known for writing the lyrics to the spiritual song sung by Diljit Dosanjh titled Aar Nanak Paar Nanak. He has worked with Diljit Dosanjh for a track named Nanak Aadh Jugaadh Jiyo as well.
Harmanjit Singh was born in Khiala Kalan village in Mansa district, Punjab. He began writing poetry at a very young age. He finished the tenth grade from Baba Jogi Peer Public Senior Secondary School and then graduated from a nearby college. He works as a primary school teacher in a government school. His father was a veteran.
