Incidents of sacrilege are surfacing with increasing frequency across the state. Reports of another such incident are being received out of Samrala in Ludhiana, Punjab. According to reports, a Gutka Sahib (holy scriptures recited daily in Sikhism) was desecrated in village Bamb.
The miscreants, identified as Tahil Singh, Amarjit Kaur and Sarabjit Singh, reportedly burnt the Gutka Sahib and dumped the burnt remains in the Neelon Canal near Doraha.
The police took immediate action and arrested all the three accused. They informed that Tahil Singh desecrated parts of Gutka Sahib and threw it on the roof of a house in the village alerting the residents to the incident. After this, he along with his sister-in-law Amarjit Kaur and nephew Sarabjit Singh burnt the parts of Gutka Sahib and immersed it in Neelon canal.
In a press conference held by DSP Samrala Tarlochan Singh and police station in-charge Rao Varinder Singh, it was told that Tahil Singh son of Thakur Singh, Sarabjit Singh son of Darshan Singh, Amarjit Kaur wife of Darshan Singh of village Bamb have been arrested in this case. Police officials said that a case has been registered against the above accused on the basis of the statements of Harpreet Singh resident Kulewal. On this occasion, representatives of different groups have demanded strict action against the alleged accused.
Just yesterday, a case of a mentally ill women desecrating holy Sikh scripture Sri Guru Granth Sahib had come to light in Samrala. The incident was caught on CCTV where the woman was seen tampering with the holy book.
