A 3-storey building collapsed in Mohali, Punjab on Saturday evening. It is feared that 15 people are trapped under the rubble. Reportedly the police have launched a rescue operation.
According to preliminary information, a gym was operational in this building. Excavation work was carried out in the basement next to it. This weakened the foundation of the building resulting in collapse.
The gym was reported functional when the building collapsed. Unfortunately, it is suspected that the people present in the gym are buried in the debris. However, no official confirmation has been made on this yet.
The administration is in touch with gym managers. According to different media reports, 10 to 50 people are believed to be trapped in the rubble.
A police official who arrived at the scene said it was difficult to confirm how many people were inside the gym, which could be buried in the rubble. A rescue operation is underway.
Locals said the collapsed multi-story building was about ten years old.
According to Mohali DC Ashika Jain, a rescue team has reached the spot. Debris removal and rescue work has been initiated.
