Following the Lohri celebrations, Punjab will witness a sharp drop in the temperature along with intense cold waves. According to meteorological forecasts, temperatures will start to drop from Monday, January 13, and will keep declining throughout the week.
According to the Meteorological department, on Lohri, the minimum temperature in Jalandhar and Ludhiana will drop to 7 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, in Amritsar the minimum temperature will be 6 degrees Celsius. Following this, the temperature will keep dropping in these cities. The chill is expected to increase by Friday and Saturday, with temperatures dropping further.
Health experts have advised to avoid long exposure to the cold and to maintain proper hydration during this period. People are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this time. In order to stay safe, people are encouraged to wear warm clothing when stepping out.

Previously, the Head of the Meteorology Department at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Dr. Pavneet Kaur Kangra, had informed that dense fog is expected to severely affect visibility, urging commuters to exercise care while traveling, especially on 12th and 13th January.
Additionally, she had urged everyone to stay protected from the cold by covering themselves adequately when going outdoors. Morning and evening walks should be avoided as well.
