Thunderstorms expected in Punjab-Chandigarh: fog alert to 9 districts, visibility to drop below 50 meters

According to the Meteorological department, Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana will receive rainfall in the last days of December.

Following rain in Punjab-Chandigarh, now the effect of fog will be seen in the state. The Meteorological department has issued an orange alert for fog in Punjab and Chandigarh. Additionally, a warning has also been issued regarding cold wave.

At the same time, the cold has increased due to snowfall in the mountains. According to the Meteorological department, an orange alert has been issued for fog and cold wave in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala and Mansa in Punjab whereas a yellow alert has been issued for fog and cold wave in rest of the districts. Visibility can also go below 50 meters in some districts of Punjab. The fog and cold wave warning has been issued till January 1, 2025.

According to the Meteorological department, a western disturbance is active. A total of two cyclonic winds can be observed around Punjab. One is in Pakistan near Jammu and Kashmir and the other is in Haryana. Apart from this, a turf is active from Gujarat to Punjab due to which it rained in Punjab, Haryana.

According to the Meteorological department, Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana will receive rainfall in the last days of December. Two new western disturbances are going to be active between January 1 and 6. The effect of these western disturbances will be seen in the western Himalayan range. 

Following this, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh as well as the plains areas are likely to receive rain and the temperature is expected to fall again in Punjab-Chandigarh.
