In a bizarre development, Jalandhar's main chowk on Thursday witnessed a massive traffic blockade that caused inconvenience to commuters. The traffic was disrupted after members of the Indian Oil Tanker Union blocked the highway at Lamba Pind Chowk.
As per the information received, the protest erupted following a violent altercation between a tanker driver, Kala, and a group of Nihang Singhs. The confrontation reportedly began over a minor road issue when Kala asked the Nihangs to give way while heading from Lamba Pind Chowk towards Pathankot Chowk. The situation quickly escalated, leading to a physical assault on the tanker driver, allegedly by the Nihangs using sharp-edged weapons.
Tanker driver Kala claimed that nearby police personnel intervened and dispersed the attackers. However, the incident sparked outrage among the union members. In response, they parked their tankers at the main intersection, effectively blocking all routes leading out of Lamba Pind.
As of now, traffic in and around the area is completely paralyzed, and commuters are facing serious difficulties. The police are currently in talks with the tanker union in an effort to defuse the situation and clear the blockade.
