Vande Bharat Express, which is known to be a faster, more comfortable, and more modern means of travel by Indian Railways, will now be available to people residing in Punjab. According to the recent updates, new trains will make their stop in Punjab, connecting the state to different regions of the nation.  

1. New Delhi to SMVD Katra (22439) / SMVD Katra to New Delhi (22440)

 It is the second Vande Bharat Express, which runs from Delhi to Katra and is situated in Jammu and Kashmir. The inaugural journey of the train was flagged by Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah on October 3, 2019. 

 The train has been running commercially since October 5, 2019, and the popular stops of the train are Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana, Pathankot, and Jammu Tawi. It runs for six days a week. Indian Railways has cancelled the operation of train number 22439/22440 New Delhi- Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express till March 6, 2025.

The ticket price for the Vande Bharat Express (22439) from New Delhi to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) is Rs 1,669 for the Chair Car (CC) class and Rs 3,059 for the Executive Class (EC) as per E-Rail 

For travellers booking tickets in Tatkal, CC will cost Rs 1,904, and EC will cost Rs 3584. 

 2. New Delhi to Amb Anduara (22447) / Amb Andaura to New Delhi (22448) 

 The train covers around five stations in the north, including New Delhi, Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. The train has been providing services since October 13, 2022.  It operates six days a week.  New Delhi-Amb Andapura Vande Bharat Express Train Stations Include- New Delhi, Ambala Cantt, Chandigarh Junction, Amamdpur Sahib (Punjab), Una Himachal, Amb Andapura.

The ticket price of  New Delhi-Amb Andapura Vande Bharat Express Train is Rs 1107 for CC, Rs 2115 of EC, For tatkal, ticket price is Rs 1347 for CC, Rs 2640 for EC. 

3) 22477- Vande Bharat Express New Delhi-Katra

Train number 22477 Vande Bharat Express Train run from New Delhi to Katra and vice versa. The train starts from New Delhi and stops at major railway stations, including Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana, Kathua, Jammu Tawi, MTYR C TUSHAR M, and finally, it reaches Katra.

Ticket Price (General Quota)- Rs 1610 for CC, Rs 3005 for EC

Why Vande Bharat?

Vande Bharat Express trains are equipped with contemporary amenities such as automatic doors, reclining seats, GPS navigation, and in-train Wi-Fi. The train is meant to offer a smooth and comfortable ride.

 As of January 2025, Indian Railways operates 136 Vande Bharat Express trains, linking numerous cities in the country. The trains have significantly cut down travel time for millions of commuters. Each train consists of 16 coaches and takes around ₹115 crore to construct, which is a significant leap for India's rail network.

Vande Bharat New Route Launch

A new Vande Bharat Express was supposed to operate between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) and Srinagar in February 2025. However, the inauguration has been delayed.  The train will run on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) route, covering more than 150 km in approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

SVDK departure: 08:10 AM | Srinagar arrival: 11:20 AM

Return trip from Srinagar: 12:45 PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially open the service, but no date has been fixed yet, as per Jagran Josh.
