'Very heavy rainfall' predicted in Delhi till New Year's Eve; Know about Punjab's weather on Dec 31

With four days to go until New Year 2025, the people of India and the world are already in a festive mood. Multiple hill stations of India are already witnessing Tourists hopping there in large number from different parts of the country to witness a 'White' New Year's Eve and even New Year. In Punjab, there is a big buzz about Diljit Dosanjh's Dil-Luminati Concert on December 31, 2024, in Ludhiana. Meanwhile, Punjab and other parts of Northern India are witnessing rainfall that is making the weather chilly. 

India Weather Update

On Friday, heavy rains occurred in Delhi and surrounding areas, which increased the outbreak of cold. Delhi-NCR recorded the highest rainfall of 9.1 mm in December after 15 years.

With this, the maximum temperature of the capital reached 14 degrees and the minimum temperature reached 11 degrees Celsius. The weather has also changed its course in Jammu and Kashmir. It rained in the plains and there is heavy snowfall in the hilly areas, affecting road traffic.

More than 2000 vehicles are stranded on the Srinagar-Jammu highway. The temperature at Zojila Pass in Jammu and Kashmir has reached -25 degrees Celsius, making the situation here even more difficult.

Weather forecast for the next 5 days

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for the next five days. An orange alert has been issued especially for Delhi and Noida till December 31, that is, there is a possibility of heavy rain and storm in these areas.

Apart from this, there may be rain in Central India and North India on Saturday and Sunday, due to which the temperature will drop in these areas.

The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert of storms, thunderstorms, and hailstorms in 11 states. Snowfall is expected in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir.

Cold winds can blow at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour in these states, which can further increase the chill. There may be heavy snowfall in these hilly areas, which may affect life.

Punjab Weather Forecast on New Year's Eve

Even though Punjab is witnessing rainfall, the state may witness clear weather in the upcoming day, especially on New Year's Eve i.e. on December 31, 2024. As per Apple Weather App, Jalandhar will have clear sunny weather on December 31 with temperatures ranging from 5 to 20 degrees Celsius. 

Ludhiana which is all set to witness Diljit's concert on December 31 may also witness clear weather with sunshine.

The temperature is all set to range between 6 to 20 degrees Celsius. A similar forecast for Amritsar as well. The Holy City's temperature is expected to be between 5 to 20 degrees Celsius. 

How's the weather in other states?

According to the Meteorological Department, Western Disturbance has become active in the northern part of Pakistan and surrounding areas, due to which the weather is changing in the Indian subcontinent. As a result, rain, storm, and snowfall are expected in many parts of India.

Due to the western disturbance, temperature may also drop in northern Chhattisgarh and there is a possibility of lightning with thunderstorms in central India and northwestern India. There may be rain and snowfall in the western Himalayan regions in these areas

- Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu, and Kashmir: There may be heavy snowfall and rain here. Also, cold winds can blow here at a speed of 50 km per hour.

- Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh: There may be light rain with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds here.

- Gujarat, Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Bihar: There is a possibility of rain in these states as well.

- Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh: There is an alert of thunderstorms and storms in these areas.
